This James Krenov style cabinet is an introduction to classic cabinet making and covers a range of traditional techniques. Building on the foundation skills covered in the Introduction to Fine Woodworking course, this is the perfect follow on.
The focus of this class is precision and hand skills, with much of the time being dedicated to hand cutting dovetails and the finer details of craftsmanship. Your journey will combine traditional carcase construction with coopering techniques to create this lovely cabinet with a curved door.
Techniques covered include:
o Hand cut through dovetails and half blind dovetails
o Rebates on the router table
o Drawer making and fitting
o Fitting knife hinges
o Coopering
o Veneering
o Making and fitting a French cleat
o Glue up techniques
o Finishing techniques
This course was developed back in 2013 by the late Thorkild Hansen - a tutor and maker long associated with our school. This well-loved project has been reintroduced to our short course programme in memory of Thorkild and as a legacy to a perfect and timeless project that gifts the student with essential skills and techniques that elevate your woodworking skills to the next level.
