The 5-day Korean Bath Stool project is an excellent opportunity for participants to use a selection of marking and measuring tools, common hand tools, some power tools and static woodworking machinery.
Comprehensive instruction and demonstrations will be provided before undertaking processes. This will help strengthen your knowledge and understanding of the tools, safe machine operation and key woodworking techniques and there will be an emphasis on the sequencing of workflow to help reduce the potential for mistakes. Approaches to work holding, bench aids and simple jigs will be introduced to provide you with approaches to common processes and allow you to apply what you are learning in your own workshop.
Starting with rough sawn boards and a shop drawing we will cover the importance of being able to read and understand basic drawings and how they are used to create a timber cut list. That in turn, assists with the initial layout of the components on the board for optimal timber usage.
Dressing rough sawn boards allows us to cover woodworking fundamentals like grain direction, and participants will learn how to break down the boards safely into the required number of components. With components successfully dressed, you will use layout tools to accurately position the joinery; in this project that is through wedged tenons, stub tenons and cutout areas.
The course also includes glue up strategies, the benefits of attention to detail and preparation of finished work for the application of wood finishes. The advantages and disadvantages of common wood finishes will be discussed.
