We are offering an exciting and unique opportunity to those makers who would like to spend six weeks of uninterrupted time dedicated to creating their own new design or concept, working alongside Michael Fortune in a highly motivated, encouraging and open studio environment.
Participants will need to be highly motivated and self-directed with sufficient skills and experience to work independently on their chosen project which will be completed within the six week period, or resolved to the point where participants are able to take their work home to complete.
Michael will be creating a piece of his own work and will be available for mentoring, guidance, consultation and tutorship at specific times each day. Whilst he is working on his own project, Michael’s co-tutor, Lou Fuller, who is our residence senior tutor here will take over the teaching role. When Michael is teaching Lou will also be working on her own project.
We are delighted to invite William Bayliss as technician/assistant to support Michael & Lou throughout the residency programme. Amongst other awards and accolades, William was the recipient of the 2020 Scholarship to attend the Michael Fortune Residency Programme.
This is a rare opportunity to work alongside and learn from one of North America’s most esteemed and creative contemporary furniture masters. Michael is highly respected and acknowledged not only as a world class teacher and mentor, but also for his design and technical expertise.
