Richard started making things when he was a young boy and woodwork was his favorite subject at school. He went to Rycotewood College full time for three years before spending many years in London working at various furniture workshops, including Martin Grierson's. Subsequently he moved to Hampshire where he worked at The Edward Barnsley Workshop. After that he started his own business, which he ran for eight years, at times employing up to five people. The workshop focussed on making fine furniture and interiors for designers and architects such as Johnny Grey and James Codrington.
Moving to New Zealand in 2002 was meant to be an OE with the wife and kids - and still is! Richard has diversified his career into other areas including building but teaching at the Centre for Fine Woodworking provides Richard with a perfect connection to his long history in the field.
