John Shaw

John Shaw has been a studio furniture maker and fine woodworking tutor for twenty-five years.

He was inspired to study fine furniture-making after discovering James Krenov's 'A Cabinetmaker's Notebook'; subsequently studying at Rycotewood in the UK and with James Krenov himself at the College of the Redwoods in California as a Fulbright scholar.

Both were pivotal experiences for his development as a designer and maker and provided the inspiration and desire to teach others.

John has exhibited and sold his unique designs widely within NZ and was the winner of the Weyerhaeuser Studio Furniture Awards at the Suter Gallery, Nelson in 2000.

John's recent work includes a lectern for Nelson Cathedral and outdoor seating for Nelson Airport and the new Nelson Visitor Centre.

These and other designs for private clients can be viewed at www.johnshawfurnituremaker.co.nz
