The game board provides us with an inspirational starting point to begin learning about both band sawn and knife cut veneer. We combine new technical skills with exploration of pattern and colour - the new graphic possibilities veneer offers us. Mix this with the fascinating problem of storage and ergonomics and it promises to be a lot of fun. Again accuracy and subtlety become the underlying bywords for this consuming design and make project. The first week of this course we will welcome our visiting tutor Katalin Sallai who completed a formal apprenticeship in marquetry making in Hungary before moving to Australia where she has pursued a career in teaching and woodworking for the last twenty years. She is actively working to integrate the traditional techniques of knife cut veneer use back into contemporary woodwork.
