We introduce our series of seating and chair making projects with this one week workshop making a classic wooden stool with woven seagrass seat. The strength and effectiveness of the classic mortise and tenon joint is fully revealed as joints of increasing (but not overwhelming) complexity are cut and fitted by hand and machine to produce the frame. Traditional seagrass is then woven by hand into a pretty seat to complete this satisfying project. Accuracy and the skills of careful fitting of parts to ensure strength are the underlying focus this project.
