Tutor: David Trubridge
MASTER CLASS: DESIGN WORKSHOP — 22nd & 23rd February 2018
PUBLIC TALK: BEAUTY MATTERS — 22nd February 2018 Suter Theatre, Nelson
We are delighted to welcome David Trubridge here to teach for the first time.
David’s work has become widely celebrated for its innovative, environmentally sensitive qualities; his fascination with nature has led him to develop collections inspired by flora, fauna and formations within the landscape. These include lighting, furniture, large scale commissions and sculptural pieces which are all designed with longevity in mind and integrity at their core. David has a strong belief in educating and encouraging the next generation of designers.
In 2008 the French magazine Express listed him as one of the top 15 designers in the world, and in 2012 the Pompidou Centre in Paris purchased his ’Icarus’ installation for its permanent collection.
David will be teaching a two day Design Workshop and giving a public lecture called ’Beauty Matters’ at the Suter Gallery in Nelson on the evening of 22nd February 2018. Follow this link to book tickets
Course Dates: 22nd & 23rd February 2018
Course Fee: $495
This workshop will be based around David’s philosophy of the complete design process being made up of three distinct parts:
Art (idea generation)
Design (creation of structure)
and Craft (making)
The emphasis will be on process, thinking and drawing with a sample design brief to work on in small groups. A more detailed course outline will be available soon.
